Nota de Tesis: Tesis : Licenciatura en Inglés con Énfasis en Traducción.-- Universidad Latina de Panamá, Panamá, 2011 Resumen: The purpose of this dissertation is to describe the main techniques ans strategies ised, present the three stories with their rendition in English and the proceed to draw on the most important learnings from this experience in the conclusion. Two important challenges were faced when translating the three selected stories from the anthology, Mis Mensajes en Botellas de Champaña. The first was to convey the reader what the author considers his vantage point, not to portray the obvious. In order to reveal this intetion in the translation, the role of context was critical because the rendition had to be as precise as the source text. The second challenge was just as demanding, to live up to the author's desire: that the translation portray the cultural nuances of the story's setting. The two challenges affirmed the crucial role of context in translation. The aim of this dissertation is to underline context as a determining factor in the translation of a literary piece.
